What is ADM Guidelines and Techniques?
ADM Guidelines and Techniques contains a collection
of guidelines and techniques for use in applying TOGAF and the ADM. The guidelines document how to adapt the ADM process, whereas the techniques are used when applying the ADM process. |
What is an Architecture Principle?
Architecture principles are a set of general rules and guidelines for the architecture being developed.
Principles are an initial output of the Preliminary Phase and are used throughout the ADM to provide a framework for guiding decision-making within the enterprise. |
The architecture principles are intended to be ...
They are intended to be enduring and seldom amended, and inform and support the way in which an organization sets about fulfilling its mission.
In which levels (any or all) the principles may be established?
- Enterprise Principles
- IT Principles - Architecture Principles |
What are the Enterprise Principles?
The Enterprise Principles provide the basis for decision-making and dictate how the organization fulfills its mission. They are a key element in a successful Architecture Governance strategy.
What are the IT Principles?
IT Principles provide guidance on the use and deployment of all IT resources. They are developed to make the information environment as productive and cost-effective as possible.
What are the Architecture Principles?
They are a subset of IT Principles that relate to architecture work. The architecture Principles can be divided into:
- Principles that govern the architecture process, affecting the development, maintenance, and use of the enterprise architecture - Principles that govern the implementation of the architecture |
What Makes a Good Architecture Principle?
Five criteria:
- Understandability - Robustness - Completeness - Consistency - Stability |
What is a Business Scenario?
Business scenarios are a technique used to help identify and understand the business requirements that an architecture must address.
A good business scenario represents a significant business need or problem, and enables vendors to understand the value of a solution to the customer. A good business scenario is also “SMART" |
What does SMART stand for?
- Specific, by defining what needs to be done
- Measurable, through clear metrics for success - Actionable, by clearly segmenting the problem and providing the basis for a solution - Realistic, in that the problem can be solved within the bounds of physical reality, time, and cost constraints - Time-bound, in that there is a clear statement of when the opportunity expire |
What does an scenario describe?
- A business process, application, or set of applications
- The business and technology environment - The actors (people and computing components) who execute the scenario - The desired outcome of proper execution |
What is the generic business scenario process?
A technique that may be used iteratively, at different levels of detail in the hierarchical decomposition of the Business Architecture.
When are the business scenarios more used?
In the initial phase of the ADM, Architecture Vision, when they are used to define relevant business requirements, and to build consensus with business management and other stakeholders.
