Crown
The part of the tooth you see. An artificial piece used to cover a damaged tooth. The part of the tooth which is covered with enamel and which is normally visible in the mouth.
The root
The part of the tooth that extends into the bone and holds the tooth in place, which is covered with cementum, it helps hold the tooth in place in its bony socket.
Tooth enamel
The thin outer covering of a tooth. It covers the crown of the tooth and protects the dentin; it is the part you can see outside of the gums.
Pulp
The soft living, sensitive tissue of the tooth, it is the living portion of the tooth and contains blood vessels and nerves.
Dentin
The middle layer of the tooth and makes up the majority of the tooth's structure, protected by enamel or cementum, it protects the pulp.
