Discourse analysis
|
Discourse analysis involves the study of language in use. This analytical work shows and interprets the relationship between these regularities and the meanings and purposes expressed through discourse.

Context
|
Context refers to the situation giving rise to the discourse, and within which the discourse is embedded.

Paragraph
|
PARAGRAPH: a paragraph is defined as a group of sentences that develops one main idea, it develops a topic.

Sentence
|
Is a complete unit of meaning and has a subject that is express or understood (as in imperative) and a predicate that contains at least one finite verb

Finite verb
|
Must normally have a subject and a tense. It is a form which is marked to show that it is related to a subject in person and/or number, and which show tense.

Simple sentence
|
only one independent clause. It must have a subject and a finite verb
|
Compound sentence
|
It contains two independent clauses that are joined together. Both sentences have the same weight or importance.

Complex sentence
|
It contains at least one independent clause and one dependant clause that are joined together by a subordinator.
