Good afternoon, colleagues, my name is Anthony Ovalles and want to send these words to all those people who like me is sick of so much violence in our country,
Today I will talk about an issue that has affected the Dominican society long time ago and I do not mean government corruption , unemployment , lack of equity of gender or lack of education but I am referring to the violence against women in our country, an issue that many argue but few act something disturbing in a society that calls itself free and independent , to me is not freedom to abuse to the giver of life , but if it oppression , because like any other living thing on earth not need to be hurt , humiliated, abused or any kind of violence.

According to the penal Code from Article 309-1 of the Act 24-97 defines “violence against women is any act or conduct, public or private, on account of their gender , which causes harm or physical , sexual or psychological suffering to women , through the use of physical force or psychological violence , verbal , intimidation or persecution. " Usually the person who seeks violent control, dominate and impose their will , regardless of the decisions , feeling and thoughts of the other person , as the objectified , seen as one thing , not as an entity equal in dignity and freedom .
But for me one of the main causes is the culture, Such as beliefs, customs, values, domestic roles, the roles of all types, language, power, leadership, communication, technology, positions, prestige, ... prevalent in some societies such as democracy, exclusion, marginalization or nonviolence. Culture in Dominican Republic has been characterized by situations, psyche, identities, opportunities, status, and sadly very different according to gender of individuals..

Is often taught that man is from the street and the woman of the house; that the chores are for women; that politics is men; that women are passive and the active is the man, that man is the provider, and that economics is secondary in women, and so on
All that are root causes of violence against women, they are ideas, practices, discrimination and gender violence who argue that women are inferior to men. That women must be obedient and passive. That man is who has the power is higher, is king, the boss ... in short: it promotes Machism
